FLOWER POWER…

I recently wrote about Daryn Kagan, one of the lovely ladies who presented at the Ladies who Launch BYOB event that I attended a few weeks ago.  Daryn Kagan has a wonderful website, and her tag line- which I love is, “Show the world what’s possible”… I subscribe to her daily emails (you should too!) and in one that I received the other day, was an inspiring message about re-purposing flowers.  There is a wonderful organization called the Flower Power Foundation, established by Nancy K. Lawlor, Floral Philanthropist (how cool is that title!).  They will arrange to pick up your flowers after an event, or wedding etc. and then re-purpose them to people that wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to enjoy them.  Here’s a bit of information from their website…

“Since February 2003 we have collected over $2,500,000 of donated flowers, re-assembled and given them to those who rarely receive such gifts of hope. Thousands of elderly, sick and terminally ill in New York City and Los Angeles have been touched by this act of kindness and we intend to expand our mission of uniting and healing generations throughout America.  FlowerPower is dedicated to having our mission alive and thriving in American culture one city at a time. We intend to accomplish this burst of compassion, joy and beauty with fun, integrity, intelligence and courage.”

Soooo…. this got me thinking I’d like to implement something like this for Toronto, and with all the events that we have going on in this great city, especially during the holiday season, I’m sure we could make a difference in other people’s lives.  Please feel free to comment about this little idea of mine, and share your thoughts if this might be something that you would be interested in participating in.  I’d love to hear your feedback…

I do…Weddings…

Did you know that there were over 64, 000 weddings in 2007 in Ontario alone! WOW! It seems that nothing is slowly down the wedding industry- music to my ears actually! Even with this instability in our economy, Weddings seem to be full steam ahead! I’ve had a few consultations this week alone, and we’ll be a part of the Garden Bridal Fair in January. www.wedsmart.ca and we will also be placing an ad in Wedding Bells. It will be in the next issue. Here’s a sneak peak…

Catching up…

Well, I’m happy to say that the Ladies Who Launch BYOB event was really inspiring, and we made some new friends and great contacts.  It was so nice to see everyone networking, and talking about their businesses- My favorite thing to do!!! One of the most interesting points for me was made by Daryn Kagen (She used to be an anchor woman for CNN, but has now moved on to more “happier and Inspiring” news stories that she covers on her website, http://www.darynkagan.com/index.html), and that was that inspiration comes in little bits.  Not all at once, packaged up with a pretty bow on it, like we all would like it to… You have to go through it, in order to come out of it stronger, better, and inspired!  I LOVE THAT PHILOSOPHY!!!  Sooo true! Onwards and Upwards!!!  :)
So… in keeping with that concept in mind…We do have some exciting news!!! We will be doing the flowers for the Art of Fashion Trunk Show, held at the Drake Hotel, in Toronto on Thursday, Oct. 16th. www.artoffashion.org. YAY!!! Sooo happy to be a part of this event, as it showcases emerging new artists and Canadian talent at that!  If you are planning on attending please drop me a line to let us know what you thought of the event (and especially our flowers of course!)  We’ll post pictures up for sure as soon as we get our grubby little hands on them!  I’ll leave you with some pics of an order that we did for Lux-Spa.  Happy Gobble Gobble day Everyone!!!
